Director Statement

Growing up I found a deep love and appreciation for fantasy and drama. This love came from comic books and Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings and Saturday cartoons. Fantasy and drama were everywhere I looked, and I wanted more. As I grew up I realized a lot of the best stories came from compelling characters that changed and were given time to be explored. And that's just what I wanted to do.

But, this film also comes from my own experiences. A couple years ago I lost my uncle, and it came at a very unexpected time, as most deaths do. I didn’t know how to deal with these overwhelming emotions, all I knew was that I wanted more time. I wanted to hear my uncle's voice again. This film came to me when I saw I had a voicemail from him, and I knew I could hear his voice again. It took a long time for me to get the courage to open that voicemail and hear his voice, but it was the love and patience of my mom that allowed me to take that step and hear his voice one more time

In Painted Grief I am going to combine the fantastical with the drama. To explore the concept of grief, love, loss, and the
need to feel connected with the one you Lost.
