Paalavi

The narrative of the film engages with mental health crises. An illness like depression can cripple anyone. Depression is not an emotion, it is an illness, and the same is portrayed in the film by its protagonist, Reva. She slowly starts drifting away from her day-to-day life. She is lost in her own thoughts. When she visits the canteen with her friends, she is triggered by small things going on in her surroundings. She isolates herself from loved ones. Leaving her with little to no desire to even step out of her house. The film has experiences of the character where depression was glued to her. It travels through her sleepless nights where she has trapped herself in a room.
Reva does seek out help. Later, it is revealed that the reason behind her depression is the loss of her father’s life. The character reaches an emotional peak and experiences a breakthrough. The film is about her emotional process of letting go and accepting her life. Reva finds her peace in nature. The film ends with a montage of trees, an open sky, a touch of different surfaces, and Reva's voice-over of how she looks on to this journey.

Director Statement

Paalavi is very close to heart as this my first official short where we scheduled and shot for 4 days. This was my first experience of directing and grateful for an opportunity like this to show what clouded in my head.
