PROOF is a short film festival in Los Angeles dedicated to showcasing the best in proof-of-concepts.

Do you have a short film or short pilot that you would like to see made into a feature film, television show, limited series, or another longer form of entertainment? Submit to PROOF! Providing a highly competitive and unique festival experience, as well as opening the door for fruitful future filmmaking opportunities, PROOF is a one-stop-shop for the newest emerging talent.

For this festival, we define a proof-of-concept as a smaller version of what a larger future project might look like. It is a short film that best represents the concept, story, tone and themes of a potential feature film or television series.

PROOF is powered by the American Cinematheque. The American Cinematheque is a member-supported 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization, programming cinema at the Los Feliz 3, Aero Theatre, and Egyptian Theatre. The AC believes that cinema is a communal experience with the power to entertain, enlighten and inspire, building a diverse and engaged film community through immersive film curation, conversation, and presentation. The American Cinematheque bridges the filmmaker to the audience and film history to its future.

I am so honored to have been a part of PROOF! The programing was incredible, and the festival circuit really was missing a proof of concept festival. Great work Imani!!

  • PROOF of Concept Film Festival was an amazing experience, from the weeks leading up to the weeks after. I got so much out of this festival; from the helpful workshops, panels and seminars to the many mixers and gatherings - they provided so many opportunities to connect with fellow filmmakers and film industry professionals besides just showcasing our films, which they also did marvelously. PROOF kicked off the opportunities a month before the event - holding Zoom meetings with interviews from various directors who began their careers with a proof of concept, allowing us to hear their stories and ask them questions and advice at each meeting. The weekend of the festival was a blast - filled with great programming, catered meet-ups, open-bar cocktail parties and informative gatherings with industry professionals. We all got to screen our work as a DCP file (PROOF also covered the cost of the conversion, which was awesome) in the beautiful Culver Theater - which by itself was a great opportunity. They kept in touch even after the event was over - promptly sharing professionally captured photos of the festival and inviting filmmakers out to the Egyptian Theater re-opening in Hollywood. Truly a transformative experience, more than worth the admission fee and perfect for any creative with plans to expand on their project - whether it's a pilot episode of a TV series or a short film laying the groundwork for a feature - PROOF of Concept is a perfect launching pad festival.

Proof was an exceptional experience all around. Leading up to the fest, Hanna and Imani scheduled Zoom sessions with incredible guest speakers, all of whom have had great successes developing shorts to features and had really useful insights to share.

The weekend itself was full of exceptionally curated short film blocks with the brilliant sound and picture of the Culver Theater as well as informative, no-bs panel discussions. Seriously the best screen I've seen our film on, and the other filmmakers I met all said the same thing.

I was stunned and lowkey intimidated at the quality of work I got to see but the filmmakers and panelists could not have been more approachable and supportive of each other. Cannot wait to keep in touch with everyone and see how their projects evolve.

Hanna, Imani, and the rest of the American Cinematheque/PROOF team worked so hard to make this an incredibly special film festival experience. In addition to well programmed short film blocks featuring amazing talent, PROOF hosted a number of industry panels and Q+A's both open to the public and for filmmakers only. This had a double effect of providing filmmakers with useful insights as we develop our careers while also fostering a community among attendees. Upon leaving the closing night party, I heard a festival friend compare it to leaving summer camp, and I can't think of a better comparison than that. I learned a lot, met a lot of potential collaborators, and got to see my short film on an enormous screen in a packed house at a beautiful cinema. I haven't experienced a festival quite like it.
