What's your story about nature?

UNCW Plastic Ocean Project and the Crafted Outpost are now taking short film submissions for the 1st annual POPtober Fest Film and Art Festival at the Wilmington Cargo District! If your short film is selected, it will be screened at the Alcove Beer Garden on October 3rd, 2021 in front of a live audience to celebrate nature, activism, and empowerment of the voices of our planet.

Any film, regardless of quality or expertise may be submitted. If you have a story to tell about the environment, we want you to tell it! If you want to empower and amplify voices of the planet, we want you to share their story!

Submission rules:

Runtime must be 30 minutes or less. The preferable length is 10-15 minutes. If the film exceeds 30 minutes, it still may be considered, but will not be as likely to be selected. Only one film per person, group, business, or organization may be submitted. Only original work may be submitted. Films which have been reviewed or screened previously may be submitted.

No film containing misleading, false, or altered information or footage will be selected. Films including copyrighted, offensive, and graphic materials beyond PG-13 rated films will automatically be disqualified from the film festival. Films must have approval of protected or copyrighted content, people, or information before submission. The POPtober Fest Film and Art Festival does not hold any liability for materials screened which still may contain unauthorized content. It is the sole responsibility of the artist to approve and review their own films to meet the guidelines before submission.

Films may not be submitted later than September 25th at 11:59 PM EST.

Submissions related to environmental justice, empowering frontline communities, marine conservation, coastal-based, and/or student-made films in the Southeast United States are particularly encouraged. Environmental justice and student-made films will be given priority selection for the film festival. All submissions will be reviewed and considered for selection if submission requirements and guidelines are met. All selections will be automatically considered for one of the four festival awards.
