POGROM
Published in a volume about childhood called “Bucurie” (Joy) (Bucharest, Editura pentru Literatură și Artă, 1949), the poem “Pogrom” of Maria Banuș (1914-1999) unfolds the memory of a family dinner in a time of terror. The details of the dinner table, the light and the sounds are elements that punctuate the minutes and the shadows in which the fear is held and nourished. An undefined dread in the shape of a man, a spider, an executioner is insinuating in the domestic calmness, and it leaves its mark on everybody and forever.
Produced in the frame of a project that brings historical feminine Romanian poetry to the contemporary public, this film united in a new collaboration three women: a visual artist, a sound artist trained in visual art, and a poet. The performative drawing builds around the sonic imaginary of the film, dealing with figuration as well as with the primary production of the residual sound of drawing.

Ana Chiorean’s artistic approaches come from the area of experimentation, of abstract expressionism in art, informal art, and installation, while remaining equally attracted to the area of archaic easel painting. The artist's research is directed towards the inner self in relation to the social, a mirrored radiography that seeks to discover, know, and expose a world of the unconscious.
Studied painting at the National University of Arts in Bucharest. Lives and works in Bucharest.
