POET IN TWO WORLDS
SYNOPSIS:
Rajendra Shekate - Raja - is an unemployed rural young with M.A. B.Ed. who fells to secure a job. His passion for writing poetry adds to the fury of his father who expects Raja to at least work in their own soya bean farm. Raja's mother is always entangled in the fights between father and son, while Raja is muddled between his love for poetry and inevitable farming.
The village, its traditional order of living, people, their varying emotions and their struggle for existence are the sources of inspiration for Raja's words. Raja witnesses them all empathetically. He pens it differently. Once, Raja gets an invitation for a lit-fest in City and a whole new world is unleashed to him. A world where he would only dream to be. It is a platform where Raja expects his poetry to be appreciated. But at this very hour, village is going through few unexpected incidences which make the whole surroundings hostile, especially to the farmers. Such unpredictable background has always pulled Raja back from stepping ahead. This time Raja prefers to chase his dreams abandoning his rural and agrarian burdens. But this choice ensnarls him into a bitter reality of both these worlds.

DIRECTORS NOTE:
Indian villages have been the most affected entity of the process of globalization. The life in villages and small towns have witnessed a vast change in the last 25-30 years. The value systems, agrarian economics, corrupt education systems, brutal fights and politics are accompanied by uneven climate cycles causing droughts and floods. On this backdrop, it is remarkably noticed that though villages get hold of semi-urban branded prosperity in one hand, on the other hand they experience the loss of good old harmonious village life.
As the newer and unknown types of stresses arise in rural life due to penetration of various media and gadgets, solutions to problems are being replaced by suicidal or violent thoughts. In the midst of patriarchal social order, women continue to be the lone sufferer as well as founding stone in the family structures. Though a few human instincts in villages tend towards togetherness, the overall process of globalization and awareness about the new world order has left villages annoying and cunning like never before. The change is inspiring enough for me to make a film.
Don Jagatla Kavi (Poet In Two Worlds) is an attempt to adapt Balaji Sutar's short story catching similar notions. I too hail from a village. I have tried to make the surroundings alive through visuals and sounds.
Don Jagatla Kavi (Poet In Two Worlds) is dilemma of unemployed literature graduate rural poet Raja who is entangled in his struggle to leave behind his vicious and chaotic rural agrarian background and establish his identity in urban literary circles.
