Best University Science Fiction
After studying Technical Theatre and working on multiple live productions for the Dallas College Richland Theatre Department, Deni Roque made the change upon his arrival at The University of North Texas to follow his true passion, filmmaking.
Using this background in theatre, Deni pushes the boundaries of independent, guerilla-style filmmaking to make powerful, engaging stories.
PITH.
The white center of citrus fruit.
The essence of something.
PITH was born out of the love for science fiction films that my brother, Aaron Spradling, and I have. Using the opportunity at The University of North Texas, we wanted to create something that was not just for a grade. We wanted to make something we could be all proud of. With a crew of four, a cast of two and only a budget of $50, we were able to bring this world alive and show a small glimpse into a much larger story still waiting to be told.
PITH explores the world under the pressure of a ground breaking discovery. That discovery is that of the soul being a tangible liquid. Like blood, it is able to be extracted. In a small vile, a persons entire self is stored. Their memories and dreams all floating inside. What doors would this open? What advancements can we make in understanding the human condition? And what are the consequences of the abuse of something so sacred?
