Hailing originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Brian Lambert is a Showrunner and Director living and working in Los Angeles. His passion for filmmaking started at age 7, and has led him through a career in short films, independent features, and documentaries. He also holds a degree in acting from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
There have been countless stories where the hero rises up from apparent defeat, like a phoenix from the ashes, their will to live (or to prove their innocence, save their family, or when millions of lives are at stake) toppling mountains of obstacles. Films like DIE HARD, THE REVENANT, and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK beautifully illustrate these concepts as characters we love rise to victory through seemingly insurmountable circumstances. Most of the time, these beloved stories are told with men as the primary characters. We love these guys, flawed and often unlikely, but why not have these characters be women? Are they not interchangeable?
The answer is no! Simply swapping genders is, in my opinion, lazy storytelling! Where Bruce Willis might gladly drive a big truck through the front of a building, Glenn Close might work the problem from within. She’d undo the bad guys in such a way to make them WISH she had only driven a truck into the building. There should be a distinct difference in approach. Shows like BBC’s excellent KILLING EVE, or HBO’s BIG LITTLE LIES have proven with their success that audiences are receptive to characters over 40 who are strong, sexy, and completely capable of taking care of business. We can’t help but to root for these ladies, and they don’t have to machine gun a room full of terrorists, or level a building!
But who are these women? What kind of woman does it take to survive and thrive in the dark world of PHOENIX? Who are these women that seek out the antagonists, fearlessly engage, and then fiercely rise above when cast into turmoil? You will want to know them, and know more about them, as I have, with every word I’ve written. And I’ve had some amazing female collaborators to help take these characters on their journey.
PHOENIX weaves a tale of action, intrigue, twists and turns, while also dealing with powerful current issues. Human trafficking, corporate greed, government conspiracies, medical experiments and big pharma have all had their time in the headlines recently, with many powerful leaders and influencers caught up in their scandals. Our characters, too, will find themselves embroiled in this hotbed of subversiveness, with only their skills and desire for righteousness to help save the day.
Welcome to the world of PHOENIX. Enjoy the ride!
