The PDXtreme Film Fest is the best damn genre festival Portland Oregon has ever seen! Taking place over 3 days at the historic Laurelhurst Theater, we showcase horror, crime, dark comedy, and everything in-between. Tales of the grotesque, the limits of the psychological, and bumps in the night whatever the cause! Does it take place in space? That's cool too.

This will be our fourth year! Continuing the traditions of the first 3 years, you can expect trophies, free beer for attending filmmakers, and no repertory films. In our first season we played 32 short films, and 13 feature films. Last year we screened 54 total films. It’s more badassness than should be allowed in one weekend!

Screening takes place at the Laurelhurst Theater, a legit theater that serves beer, wine, and pizza. In less than a minute you can walk to a variety of restaurants, bars, and other examples of Portland life.

We promise a rollicking good time and a slate packed with great films. We can't do that without the filmmakers, so submit your films now! International films accepted. Diversity and originality are not only welcome, but also encouraged. Absolutely no ratings restrictions, ever.

Here's what some previous filmmakers had to say!

“Now that we've fully recuperated, we wanted to thank PDXtreme Fest for having us. You guys really did something incredible and held a great festival with awesome movies and fantastic people. We are so honored by your Best Feature Award. Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU! You guys rock!” – Ben Moody, Director- “Last Girl Standing”

“I watched a ton of awesome films, some of which I'll never be able to forget, and met some brilliant filmmakers who are now friends I hope will one day become colleagues. This festival, run by the amazing Jeremy Jantz and Dulcie Jantz, was everything I'd hoped it would be. Thanks to everyone involved for their hard work and camaraderie. PRAISE THE LORD!” - Ryan LaPlante, Director- “Holy Hell”

“Thanks again for putting together so many great movies and so many cool filmmakers! I'm still absorbing all the awesome movies you packed into 3 days. The range of subjects and styles, the quality, all of it was fantastic. PDXtreme was the most enjoyable and inspiring festival I've been to in forever. Can't wait to see what 2016 brings!” - Jerry Ochoa, Director- “This Neighborhood”

“My sister Ashley Mary Nunes and I had an amazing time at PDXtreme - Portland Underground Film Fest this weekend! We were sad to say good-bye to all the talented new friends we made. Thank you… for a truly memorable weekend of blood, horror, and good times!!!!” – Todd Nunes, Director – “All Through The House”

Winners in various categories receive a custom designed trophy! Our first year, we awarded trophies for Best Feature, best Comedic Short, Best Dramatic Short, and Best Practical FX. Now we've added Best Actor, Best Actress Feature, and Best Actor, Best Actress Short.
Each category includes nominations. Attending the fest does not increase a filmmaker's chance of winning. Trophies will be mailed at our expense. But it is cooler to put it directly in your hand.

There shouldn't be any surprises here, but let's cover the bases.

1. You should have all applicable festival rights.
2. There are no completion date or premiere limitations. However, preference will be given to films without public distribution.
3. You retain all rights, but we reserve the right to use all provided promotional materials, as well as short film segments where necessary. If we accepted it, we want to really push it.
4. All films not in English must have English subtitles.
5. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

My experience at PDXtreme was pretty good! The shorts I screened with were really strong in quality, and there was free beer included! We had a little hiccup at the beginning when my girlfriend (who is under 21) was not allowed into the theater after 5:30pm, but that was the rule of the venue and not a reflection of the festival. Luckily, my film screened before 5:30 the next day so there were no problems after that. If the festival intends to stay at the venue next year, however, I would advise them to notify the attending filmmakers of that rule beforehand to avoid any possible problems.
Another positive is that after the event, I released my film online and the festival plugged it on their Facebook page, which was very much appreciated. Overall, great festival!

The PDXtreme team puts on one hell of a horror festival.
Located in Portland at the Laurelhurst Theatre, The PDXtreme was the right balance of professionalism, hospitality, and content that wasn't afraid to afraid to push boundaries.
I highly recommend this festival to filmmakers and cinephiles alike and will be submitting again next year.

Although I wasn't able to attend, the festival organizers were exceptionally hospitable and had excellent communication. They really go out of their way to make sure each filmmaker gets the most out of the experience. I hope I'm able to attend next year!
