Nicholas Manting Brewer is a documentary editor and producer who hopes to explore diversity through collaborating with directors from around the world to share a broader spectrum of the human experience. He is a MFA Production Student at University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. In 2015, Nicholas came to USC to continue his education as a documentary filmmaker. He holds an honors degree from New College of Florida in Cultural Anthropology, specifically focusing on Ethnographic Filmmaking in the Digital Age. Nicholas believes in bridging public service with filmmaking. He’s an AmeriCorps VISTA alumnus whose use of video and photographic advertising has earned him the Florida Campus Compact VISTA Recognition Award. His research interests include social documentary, visual anthropology, and virtual reality. His current coursework includes editing the 15-minute documentary Forever Home, an Advanced Project that focuses on foster-care and adoption in Riverside, California. His previous work has focused on Filipino diaspora in the United States, African-American History in Sarasota, FL and transgender rights. After graduate school, he plans a career as a freelance documentary producer and editor.
As a filmmaker, I hope to bring social issues to the forefront to advocate on behalf of human rights. My goal is to work with directors from around the world to produce unheard and suppressed stories. My guiding belief is that filmmaking should be a tool for speaking truth to power.
