When the pandemic hit us, we were soon to know about the phrase 'embracing the new normal'. There is nothing normal about the loss of livelihood, nothing normal about having to walk for hours. While the privileged embraced a new world, those who were worst affected, fall through the gaps.
Path, however, is a personal story of a lone journey a man takes as India readies herself for the onslaught of the virus.

Director Biography - PRADIP KURBAH

Pradip Kurbah’s Ri – homeland of uncertainty & Onaatah –Daughter of the Earth was awarded the National Film Award (India) and were selected for the International Film Festival of India. His third film Iewduh won the KIM JISEOK AWARD at the prestigious 24th Busan International Film Festival, South Korea. Iewduh won MIT-SFT Human Spirit Award at Pune International Film Festival and also won the Best Khasi film and Best Location sound at the 67th National film awards.
Kurbah’s work in progress, The Elysian Field is one of the 22 selected projects for Asian Project Market (APM) Busan 2020.

Director Statement

The Covid 19 pandemic affected all of us directly or indirectly. It gave us the ‘new normal’ that no one probably wanted. The last few months have come with haunting images that will be a part of the pages of the history of this world and will remain fresh in our conscience for a long time. It is therefore very difficult to stay unaffected even if people’s sufferings and experiences are not in direct connection to our daily lives. Since I live in Meghalaya, India, the condition of the people living in the remote part of the state has continued to haunt me ever since the lockdown began. The pandemic has affected healthcare in even the metropolitan cities, so how would it be for people who live near the border and therefore have no access to healthcare on the Indian side due to bad connectivity of roads and have to go to Bangladesh? The closing of the border aggravated this suffering.

While telling this story, I’d visually want to mirror the simplicity which is there in reality and not design the simplicity. The storytelling would is in monochrome, mirroring the monochrome lives of the people who live in the region. Path is my way of telling an untold story.
