Overground (2023)

As a new wave of underground rock artists emerge from the hiatus of live-music; two groups of these young creatives participate in a short documentary on the subject. While contemporary bands & local promoters pave a brave new way for Manchester rock, past & present begin to blur, a veteran music journalist of the mythic Factory-era is caught in the crossfire.

Director Statement

I documented the return of live-music to Manchester & Salford after the pandemic as part of a freelance video project. This developed into a music documentary film with many collaborators in-front & behind the camera. 'Overground' is that film.

'Overground' closed out 3 years studying BA Film Production at the University of Salford. The piece captures a fleeting & narrow window in our recent history, as well as in my own life, with great urgency & anxiety.

Fundamentally, I wanted to investigate music & performance art via the reflexive documentary mode.
