Out to the Water
We are at the fjord on a cold winter's day. The dense mist makes the water and the sky merge into one. The shape of a person appears on the horizon. A man with a fishing rod in his hand.
“Out to the water" is a short documentary that examines if antidepressants can be replaced with nature and fishing. Through lingering images of nature and meditative music, it tries to give the viewer the same feeling and calmness as if they were there themselves.

Johanne Riis is a young aspiring film director with only a few years of experience.
She is currently a film student at Dansk Talentakademi (a creative school in Holstebro). One of her latest student projects is a documentary short film called “Out to the Water”. This is her first time directing a documentary.
A key element of Johanne’s directing is the visual presentation of her films. She always focuses on how to make her movies stand out visually, with unconventional camera angles and other techniques. Therefore she works closely with her photographers.
Another important aspect of Johanne’s filmmaking is to immerse the viewer in the story she is trying to tell. She does that by focusing on the small and quiet moments, letting subtle details and performances dominate and giving the viewer time to reflect.
Besides directing, Johanne also enjoy exploring film photography and has lately been Director of Photography on a coming of age short film called “Hvad gør man” by Benjamin Ørbæk Haahr.
She is currently director and producer on a music video for a young band.
