Our Planet, Our Future
Engineer Peter Nduati has always been keen about the environment and has taken upon himself to enlighten everyone around him to become environmentally cautious. I grew up in a relatively green environment but watched it all fade away and no one really did much about it. Everyone just watched. Engineer Peter Nduati has taken upon himself to influence me, his niece among others that surround him in repopulating our environment with indigenous trees; as he proudly says, the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago and the next best time is now. He has taken his passion a notch hire by growing his own forest dubbed ‘Gooka’s Orchabota’ which constitutes of indigenous trees and fruit trees growing together for sustainability. This Orchabota is in his backyard in Karen, Muteero Drive and consists of over 50 indigenous tree species with citrus, tree tomatoes and passion fruits. His aim is to teach children the various types of trees, benefits of planting and growing trees in a small area, showing everyone that it is possible to nurture trees hence bettering the environment. Engineer goes ahead to educate us as a retired civil engineer that you do not have to destroy the environment to build a house or put up structures. We can always traverse round the trees giving them a chance to grow hence bettering our overall lives and the environment at large.

This film is personal to me as its a journey I've traveled thanks to the inspiration I have gotten from Engineer Nduati who happens to be a relative. It is a sweet inter-generational love story that touches every individual that comes into contact with it. His inspiration has touched many souls as he ventures out to work with the young making us all follow his footsteps as he challenges us all to do better for the environment. I mean, when a 71 year old ends up planting more trees than a 30 or 13 year old, it certainly makes you question your life decisions. His is an inspirational love story and I am glad to walk this path with him. What better way to tell an climate change and conservation story than through a simple, entertaining, love, hearty, educative and inspirational story?
