Our Natural State

Two college freshmen, Saraya Morrow and Kailey Jones, are getting ready for bed when they suddenly get invited to a late-night hangout in their resident hall lounge area. While Kailey, a mixed-race black woman, is eager to go immediately, Saraya, a dark-skinned black woman, struggles with her fear of being seen in her natural state with her natural 4C hair and a bare face; which is widely perceived as ugly even within the black community.

Writer Statement

Writing has been a passion of mine since I was 5 years old. I've always been an introvert; I'd stutter over words all the time because they would get so jumbled up in my head because of how much I had to say. Writing is an outlet that allows me to slow down, collect my thoughts, and share my stories in a "no pressure" environment.

My father, Shawn Wolfe would always read my stories and laugh in amazement at the full novels I would write about princesses fighting. Just having my dad read and interact with my stories made me extremely happy. Knowing I have the potential to entertain people makes me who I am today. To this day, my father always makes me feel like my writing can change the world.

I will continue to grow as a writer everyday. Even if I'm not perfect, I hope you all can lend me your eyes (because I'm a writer and you have to read) and experience the world through my eyes for the duration of my scripts. As a writer, I love to introduce new discussions about everything. With that, I also hope that after reading my stories, you can reflect them.

Thank you!
