Otter & Fox

Otter & Fox – a fanciful goofball and a logical perfectionist – have just pulled off the biggest heist in Brisbane’s history! After successfully robbing nine luxury retail stores, Otter decides they should stop for some “celebratory snacks” from a tiny grocery store. However, their quest for sustenance turns stale when they bump into an obstacle neither could have predicted…

What began as a bunch of scattered ideas put into a blender, inevitably evolved into a story that took relationships, conflicts and people that I’ve experienced in my life and put them into a grocery store heist. Grounded by its relatable characters, ‘Otter & Fox’ is a demonstration of true Australian friendships and proves that no matter how wrong things go, your friends will always be beside you until the end. Life will always find a way to surprise you which is why we need to have people in our lives that will help us learn more about ourselves and the world we live in.

In my childhood, the films I grew up on were the reason I became so passionate about creating my own stories. Family classics like ‘Over The Hedge’, ‘Mr Bean’s Holiday’ and ‘Hoodwinked!’ were a few of the films I watched on repeat– all of these which share one common theme, unlikely friendships. I think seeing these characters interact and become so invested in each other was subconsciously a trope that I loved but wasn’t aware of until I began writing ‘Otter & Fox’. I find it so fascinating developing characters with contrasting personalities into believable friends and I spent a lot of time really leaning into the personalities of my friends and family to create the characters of ‘Otter’ and ‘Fox’.

In the process of development, there were times when another voice was needed to enhance the film. This is when Carmelo Keating jumped on board to produce the project. Carmelo’s unique style of writing, passion for film and his exceptional work ethic was the reason the film was able to take the next step and become better than it ever could be.

Without the collaboration with people who I live with, all the way to people in other countries, Otter & Fox would never have reached its goal as a film –to be an Australian Comedy that feels like an inside joke.
