Ososo, The Ascent Of A People

In the Obiko cultural practice of Ososo people, a scenic, tourist town located in Edo State, Nigeria, when a girl turns 15, upwards to around 18 to perhaps 20, she is made to cover herself with a reddish powder made from camwood, made to go for days without bathing and among other traditional rites, in a bid to prove she's without blemish, chaste and ready for marriage, she will be made to dance around the entire town naked.

According to Ososo culture, this practice is compulsory for all Ososo girls, and failure to carry out the rites could lead to bareness, the elders say, although some analysts say this warning is only to ensure compliance...the Obiko rite is said to be one of the ways of getting eligible suitors for Ososo sons, in marriage...

In "Ososo, The Ascent Of A People", Doppler Films explores another the culture of Ososo, another fascinating Nigerian town, in a series of documemtaries exploring Nigerian towns and her people!
