Or Bit
Who are you, as an audience in Or Bit? Are you breaking into someone else's world? Or are you trapped as well? Or Bit is a 360 degrees dance film that gradually unveils the transition of X and Y from curious explorers to the trapped objects of observation.

"How to capture and enhance the 'liveness' of performing arts? What are future audiences looking for?" are questions lingering on Daming's mind. She dives into the research, artistic exploration and practice of XR (AR/VR/MR) from theatre perspective as a starting point. Her first VR project, a 360 degrees dance film Or Bit, was initiated in July 2018, completed in September 2019. Or Bit is the Official Selection of the 38th International Festival of Films on Art (Canada) and the 17th Cinedans Festival (The Netherlands) and was invited by Digital Catapult (UK) for a private viewing in February 2020. Also, Daming has extensive work experience as director, visual designer, and stage designer in both arts and commercial activities. She initiated experimental performing arts projects such as "ReActor" and "Skin Tight” during her time at the Power Station of Art (Shanghai Biennale).
Daming holds Doctor of Art in Scenography at the Central Academy of Drama (China). She is the recipient of the 2020 British Council's UK-China Connections through Culture Grant.
Or Bit is a VR dance film that applies theatre-making methods to VR creation. It is created upon the idea that dance is regarded as a process of the change of different "elements" in space. Therefore, as part of the "elements", not only dancers move in Or Bit, but also the camera. Camera is treated as a virtual character and has its own movement design. The changing distance between the camera and the dancers evoke an emotional tension between the two. Through this film, I want to find out how to guide attention in an immersive environment as well as to explore the unique grammar of 360° camera.
