Experiencing Interruptions?

Oppressiveness/Empowerment

Oppressiveness/Empowerment (2022/2023) is an examination of the phenomenon of oppression in the context of the culture of patriarchy. Without providing any instructions in advance, Murawska looks at the relationships that occur between the mechanism of oppression and the performer during performative action. She gets rid of verbal language and creates a platform for visual communication with the performer. She arranges the space and the arrangement of elements, withdraws into the role of an observer and watches the development of events. This strategy emphasizes referring to common experiences. It allows her to check whether the experiences of oppression of patriarchal culture that she knows are really as common as she thinks.
The axis of the work is a cross-section of the relationships that the performer established with the mechanism of oppression and the stages of its development: in Oppressiveness, from submission to oppression, through struggle and its final subjectivity and liberation, and in the Empowerment part - the exploration of the achieved subjectivity.
