This documentary focuses on the survivors of coercive, controlled
relationships. We managed to interview six participants, four
woman and two men, forming the bedrock of this production.
The participants come from a wide range of backgrounds which
highlights the fact that this can affect everyone.
Our documentary aims to shine a light on the dark world of
coercive control. It uses strong, arresting visuals and sound to
bring home the destructive impact this form of control and abuse
can have on people. Our film is engaging, artistic, informative,
and sensitively tells the participants harrowing story as well as
their ultimate escape to freedom.
Woven throughout these interviews are two specialist
contributors in the field of coercive control:
Clare Ciborowska – Barrister in Family Law.
Clare has previously provided consultancy to the production
team on BBC3’s documentary‘ Is This Coercive Control? She
also makes a guest appearance in the programme itself.
Dr Emma Katz – Senior Lecturer Liverpool Hope University.
Emma was a script advisor for Coronation Street s coercive
control storyline; ITV 2020.
A film highlighting coercive control, to help more people recognise what is abuse.
To help victims understand they are not to blame.
There is hope.
There is help.
Understanding this subject has never been more critical.
The recent pandemic has seen a large spike in reported cases of domestic abuse. It is closer to home than we think.
