On the Shore of Pangea: A Sedona Suite-The Movie
On the Shore of Pangea: A Sedona Suite is a “genre-free” collection of 19 original instrumental compositions organized into 5 “chapters” attempting to musically describe the geology, flora and fauna, important groups of people, the recreational enjoyment of the outdoors, and the adventures of the mind and spirit in Sedona.
As I composed these pieces my mind was filled with images of the creation of the Sedona landscape over the millennia, the flora and fauna that inhabited our area, and the people that have created the Sedona that we experience today. As the music neared completion I felt a strong compulsion to illustrate this music to create a unique sight, sound, and musical experience.

My career has been as Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Michigan State University and medical practice in Illinois, Michigan, Hawaii, and Oregon. My avocations are composer, songwriter, screenwriter, and filmmaker.
In addition to my plans to be a rock and roll star, my plan upon high school graduation was to become a conductor and composer. My mother was employed at a private liberal arts college with an excellent music school where I would receive half tuition and I could live at home, which was more affordable than going away to a state school. Unfortunately, I failed my clarinet audition and I had to choose a different major. Hence, my fall back was premed and I ended up going to medical school and had the career described above.
Living on Kauai from 2009 to 2014, I became infatuated with Hawaii history, and while waiting for laboring moms to deliver, I spent my time in the call room writing a screenplay, "The Menehune, Magic in the Mountains", that wove a tale involving those mythical Hawaiian people superimposed on actual Hawaiian history . That was my first and only screenplay, but I did learn a lot and reap an Honorable Mention certificate from it. I've had it professionally covered and I'm slowly working to fine tune it.
Since retirement I have had time to pursue my first love, music composition. After composing a song cycle for classical guitar based on Yosemite that I set to an orchestral accompaniment, I felt ready to compose a major work. Having moved to Sedona for retirement, my subject was literally in my backyard. After six months of composition and recording I birthed "On the Shore of Pangea: A Sedona Suite".
This is my most ambitious creative work ever and I have been gratified by the responses of those that have viewed it so far.
My current combined musical and film project is "Na Diné: A First Peoples Suite, that will musically trace the migration of the Na Diné peoples from Siberia to the American Southwest. I am incredibly grateful to Erygron, a Chukchi native song and dance group founded in the 1970s and still going today, for giving me permission to set an a cappella piece recorded in 1974 to a subtle orchestral accompaniment. I will begin the film following completion of the musical score.
