One day on Haiti
The graduation documentary film "One day on Haiti" brings to life everyday life in this poor Caribbean country. Through the testimonies of local residents and charity workers, it presents us with their struggle with difficult living conditions and shows the huge difference between poverty and wealth. The film also explains, through a short animation, the historical events that have influenced the current situation in Haiti. Its goal is not to answer complex questions, but rather to give us an insight into the everyday life of local residents and show how we can help as citizens of the Czech Republic following the example of the Olomouc charity, which has been going to Haiti every year for many years.

Vít Kanyza (CZE)
PHOTOGRAPHER, VIDEOGRAPHER, PASSIONATE TRAVELER
Vít joins the field of multimedia technology because of two
From his first year at school, he impressed by the unconventional concept of contrast in his black-and-white photographs, the images led him to the camera. Among other things, he participated in a feature-length documentary film about the astrophysicist Jiří Grygar (2018), his bachelor's graduation film Road to Canarias was awarded third place by the jury of the 15th International Outdoor Film Festival (in the Water Adventure and Adrenaline Sports category), due to the documentary One Day in Haiti he worked as a volunteer for a month in this poorest country of the Western Hemisphere.
While studying for a follow-up master's degree in Audiovisual Creation, he filmed the fight to save loris in Sumatra with director Ondřej Smékal. Even in his life as a graduate, Vít continues to successfully combine his love for traveling with filmmaking (and Silesian University).
One Day in Haiti is my graduation film. I spent 35 days in Haiti as a volunteer for the Olomouc charity, photographing children for a long-distance adoption project. It was not only an opportunity to portray the daily realities of this impoverished Caribbean country but also a way to convey a simple yet important message: rather than focusing solely on material possessions, we should also consider helping others. While we are fortunate to live in abundance, children in Haiti face poverty and hardship daily.
Thanks to translations of the interviews after returning home, I could once again appreciate how unique this project is – a genuine and unchangeable portrayal of life in Haiti. Haiti is not just a place of poverty and disasters; it is also one of resilience and hope. This film is my way of helping their story and message find resonance with us as well.
