One Way Street Bookstore’s Variations
According to the wechat, one way street, a well-known bookstore in Beijing, would be closed in three months (December 31, 2019). Therefore, our team tracked and photographed the whole process of the closure of the bookstore.
The survival and development of physical bookstores in new media era, the status quo and fate of paper books, are millions of people’s concern. Focusing on the staffs, we find out that the bookstore has its own filter which witnesses beautiful and blooming youth; at the same time, like a catalyst, the closure stimulates interesting stories.
The documentary is not intended to sing an elegy for books and off-line bookstores. In fact, the closure of a bookstore does not mean that reading is dead. Therefore, the film is more interested in showing the warm space and interesting soul.
