Felix Sutton is a writer-director and filmmaker, from London, England.
One Night Stand [2022/2024] is his first film, and Felix has recently completed his second short film, ‘Belladonna’ [2024].
As Felix recalls, his desire and inspiration to become a filmmaker stems from his early love of Quentin Tarantino movies:
‘From my earliest memories, watching film always seemed like a wonderful place to escape to. I remember watching Django Unchained (2012) by Tarantino, at midday on a Sunday, when I was 14.
‘I thought it was a cool, fun, awesome film – it felt like being on a rollercoaster. I then watched Pulp Fiction’ (1994). Tarantino’s films made me want to become a filmmaker. Films are either a means of escape, or a means of reflection.
‘If you want to watch something you really enjoy, then go and make it.’
‘I was trying to learn the craft of filmmaking, as opposed to initially expressing a given idea. Then one night, I rolled a cigarette, but couldn’t smoke it, because I couldn’t find a lighter. This made me think about the dramatic conflict which can arise when a person (‘A’) wants something (‘B’), but can’t because of a missing factor (‘C’).
‘From this sprang the idea of whether I could make a film of somebody who craves a cigarette but cannot smoke one, because they don’t’ have a cigarette lighter.
‘At the suggestion of my film tutor at Raindance Film School, Ufuk Gokayya, I sketched out bullet points for my script outline. The finished result was my screenplay, which took about 30 minutes to complete – including some minor changes – it all happened very quickly.'
