Jeremy A. Lopez is an Arizona-born actor turned Director/Filmmaker in Los Angeles, CA. His acting credits incl Shameless, The Kominsky Method, and Lake Bell's "I Do Until I Don't".
He's primarily worked behind the lens as a Producer, but his passion is Directing, Shooting & Editing which he debuts in "One For All: The DJ Chris Villa Story".
“It’s pretty cool to see a story about some Mexican kid, become a superstar”.
Ironically, that quote by DJ Chris Villa (featured in the trailer) was not referring to himself. He was talking about Rock & Roll superstar Ritchie Valens, who met a pre-mature & tragic demise and who was an idol for us both growing up in the era of “La Bamba”. The thing about Chris is that while he has every reason to brag and self-aggrandize about his unbelievable talent as a world-renowned DJ, his humility is what really stood out to me as a filmmaker. I’m the one who sees Chris as a budding superstar, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been chosen to tell his story.
Full disclosure, I was not (and now for the most part am not) a DJ fan. While I am a fan of music, I never had a favorite DJ nor followed DJ culture. Chris and I went to the same high school, but only knew each other peripherally. My five sisters were in the same grades as most of the five Villa boys, and I heard of DJ Chris from time to time. After following his career on social media for years, I reached out to him about shooting a documentary. I knew he had a substantial following and an impressive resume, and my initial ambition was just to chronicle a few of his gigs and produce something to cater to his fans and the broader DJ crowd. I was definitely not prepared for how his story was to unfold in late 2018.
A week or two before we planned to start shooting, Chris was selected as one of only 6 US Finalists in the Red Bull 3Style World Championship – which I later learned was the “Olympics of DJ-ing”. I’ll save the details for the documentary, but from then on it was clear that his story was demanding to be told and the filmmaking process came together in seemingly impossible (and transcendent) ways.
I fell in love with Chris’ passion for his craft, and the example he sets in his relationships with his powerhouse wife Terra, their two children, and the rest of the Villa clan. In a career that seemingly couldn’t be more at odds with a healthy personal and family life, Chris demolishes the DJ stereotype and serves as an inspiration for good-hearted people in our divided world.
Suffice it to say that “One for All” couldn’t be a more appropriate title. Chris’ ability to capture hearts with his musical talents was awe-inspiring, and his personal story offers something for everyone … to relate to, root for, and to fall in love with.
