Once Loved
Indonesia is the second largest contributor of plastic waste to the oceans in the world. Plastic which was originally made to make life easier for humans, has now become a threat to human life through its pollution to the environment and its role in the climate crisis. Meiki W. Paendong from WALHI West Java and Abdul Ghofar from WALHI National discussed the issue of plastic in Indonesia, both from the side of the government and society. Abah Widi, who is an elder from the Cireundeu Traditional Village, also told about the tragedy of the Leuwigajah landfill, the landslide disaster that occurred in 2005 which killed 157 people. There is no growing concern regarding waste and its impact if it is disposed of into the environment, so the government and the public must immediately realize this before it creates bigger problems in the future.
