On The Unstable Things (Les Choses Manquantes)

What happens when the familiar slips away?

A person wakes up, failing to recognize the room, the woman speaking to him, or even his own reflection. His alleged "name" sounds like nothing more than a cluster of meaningless sounds.

A mundane morning unravels into chaos as doubts creep in, and the house begins to crack and tremble, reacting to his hesitation.
Trapped in this terrifying game, he must perform his assigned role or watch everything collapse.

On the Unstable Things is a magical realist exploration of how the setting collapses.

Director Statement

When the present moment detaches from its context: a familiar word suddenly sounds foreign, the face of someone close becomes unrecognizable, or the actions of the ‘self’ feel alien to the observing ‘I.’ This film takes us on a journey beyond context, where nothing is taken for granted.

We experience the film through the eyes of someone awakening to an unfamiliar reality—perhaps one that evolved in their absence or lay hidden behind the scenes of daily life. Layers beneath the surface are revealed as the story explores detachment, dissociation, and the echoes of intergenerational trauma. Cracks forming in the walls serve as a metaphor for the fracturing foundations of the film’s world.
