Jeffrey Daijiro Taylor is a mixed race composer for films & games. Born in Chelmsford Massachusetts to Yoko Sano (mother) and Paul Taylor (father). Jeffrey grew up loving music. He would sing in his church and school’s choir, take piano and voice lessons and loved seeing the Boston Symphony live at Boston’s Symphony Hall. Despite his love for music, he found that he wasn’t the best performer. This was largely due to his struggles with reading in both music and English. In search for another path in music, he developed a passion for composing. His love for composing music eventually motivated him to attend Ithaca College’s School of Music where he’d graduate with a BM in Music Composition.
In college, Jeffrey was first introduced to the craft of film scoring while taking a class on composing for visual media. At the time, his main focus was on his training as a contemporary classical composer, but something about working with directors and contributing to a greater goal intrigued him. During his training, he began collaborating with a student from the film department named Justin Li. Justin had first heard Jeffrey’s music while working on another film he had scored. In their first meeting, he told Jeffrey that he wanted Jeffrey’s sound for his next film Never Last (2019). Even though the film wasn’t feature length, it was still Jeffrey’s first feeling of working on something big.
After Jeffrey finished working on Never Last, he went on to set up his roots in the game industry as a composer and audio specialist. The first game he worked on was a 2D sprite based cyberpunk samurai game named Iaijutsu (2021). For Iaijutsu, Jeffrey not only wrote the music, but also worked on all the sound design, FMOD implementation and coded the audio scripts for the game.
As the 2020 pandemic started settling down and films started ramping up, Jeffrey took another step back into the film industry to work on Justin’s next film Moments Fleeting (2021). Scoring for professionally hired actors and staff members was a real step up from the college level work he was used to. It also marked a leap forward in his audio skills. After working as a sound designer and audio mixing for the game Iaijutsu, he felt confident enough to translate those skills into the film industry by creating the audio mix for Moments Fleeting.
