Old Patterns
The story takes place in an old run-down flat after a robbery where two men use the flat as a drop-off point for an illegal cash transaction. As they wait for a person to pick up the money, both characters fall back into old patterns they have long since learned to deal with. Distrust of the other, fear, and panic turn the waiting into a rollercoaster of emotions that leads to the realization of the dark reality in which the two find themselves in.

Joshua was born in Vienna, Austria. He graduated from high school with a major in photography and film and lived in Los Angeles for one year to work at the USC Shoah Foundation. During this time he focused on writing, photography and other art projects.
His passion for narrative story telling leads to various short film projects and upcoming screenplays. He is currently studying design, photography and film at the Faculty for Design in Würzburg, Germany.
I have always been fascinated by how people perceive and deal with the same situations differently. It gives you perspective.
The idea for this very dark, emotional story came to me, while watching 'Ma Rainy's Black Bottom' a chamber play in which four musicians who couldn't be a more different meet and express their personalities in a small rehearsal room. However, what fascinated me most about this film was the end when the pianist named Toledo (Glynn Turman) steps on the newly bought, for the time precious shoes of the self-centered, headstrong young saxophonist named Levee (Chadwick Boseman), who then arbitrarily decides to take the innocent Toledo's life. This scene left me breathless for a moment but still made me think. What will happen to Levee now? Is his career over? Will he be arrested? However, these questions were all left to the imagination of the viewer. With this in mind, I began writing this short film's story.
The beauty of a short film is that you have the opportunity to show very little but very intensely. It is like a sharp insight into the big picture. A snapshot. A moment in which so much can happen. Telling this story in the form of a chamber play is an extraordinary one, I think because it allows you to approach this extremely sensitive and emotional story with the two protagonists and to make it together what it ultimately becomes.
