Oh For a Muse of Fire
A young frustrated artist struggling to find inspiration, quits and retreats to her aunt's lake house in an effort to evade her omnipresent inner critic and find artistic renewal. But upon her arrival, she discovers he's followed her and will not leave her in peace. If she murders her inner critic, will she also have murdered her inner muse? A comedic story of freedom, growth and embracing imperfection.

This is Laura and Pete's third short film to date! Laura Darrell (actress, producer) and Pete Rohan (DP, Editor) co-conceived, co-directed as well as co-produced this film. Their previous short films include "The Dressing Room" about a rivalry between two actresses that takes place in their dressing room, and "A Writer's Retreat" which is a short horror film about a young writer who visits a haunted hotel for research and then discovers that she was buried in a wall there in a previous life (Available on Vimeo). Both NYers, Laura originally hails from Maine and Pete from Maryland! Pete's company Rohan Audio LLC produces audiobooks as well.
Pete and I wanted to explore the purpose and influence of an artist's inner critic. Who or what is that inner voice that keeps pushing us to be better? Does it have a valuable function? Or does it do more harm than good? With this short film, we endeavored to explore how one woman finds a way to embrace her inner critic as an indispensable muse.
