Matthew Wassong is a student filmmaker from Westchester, NY. He started making films at the young age of 10, drawing inspiration from the likes of Michel Hazanavicius' "The Artist", James Cameron's "Avatar", Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds" and the extensive catalogue of shorts being published on early-era Youtube.
In high school he won "Best of the Fest" and "Best Student Film" at the Greenwich Film Festival for his shorts focused on Technology Addiction and the growing Climate Epidemic.
Accepted into Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, Matthew has thrived in an environment of his peers, writing, directing and crewing on a variety of short films, including his own independent short "Mafiosos" which won Best Student Short at the Tryon International Film Festival in 2018.
His most recent project "Oasis" refocuses on his passion for Climate Justice. Inspired by a series of conversations with his father about how the human race will get along without readily available fresh water. "Oasis" explores what life may be like if we continue on our current destructive path.

I was inspired to make this project after a series of conversations I had with my father. He had always been obsessed with the idea that the future wars on Earth will be fought over our collective need for fresh water. Through this it inspired me to write the script for Oasis in March of 2018. It wouldn't be until a year later that I was able to bring the story to the big screen. Without the fantastic team involved and our collective passion for the Earth and its future, this project would not be where it is today.
In Early April 2019, over a single weekend, Oasis came to life. With an incredible crew of 30+ we set out to make this film and after our shoot was up I could not wait to have it take its final form.
I am so incredibly proud of what was able to be accomplished in such a short amount of time. This would not have been possible without the countless hours every single person put into making this film the best it can be.
I hope you enjoy... and beware the 'Oasis'.
