Director Biography - Levi Angus - Stevenson Graham, Liam Krajewski

Levi Stevenson Graham, a 17-year-old first-time filmmaker from New Zealand and is of European descent.

He has experienced life at both the highest and lowest points in NewZealand, having been born in Auckland, raised in Georgetown, Invercargill, and later moving tothe Wellington region where he currently lives.

In 2024, Levi self wrote and co-directed his first short film, Out of Focus, alongside his friend and classmate Liam Krajewski while studying at Yoobee Colleges. During his time there, he actively
participated in various student productions, primarily working as a boom operator and audio
recordist. This hands-on experience sparked a deep interest in the technical aspects of
filmmaking, especially sound design and video editing.

Levi’s passion for film began during high school, where he discovered a love for storytelling and
screenwriting. Together with his friends, he helped create a short TV series inspired by Breaking
Bad. Many of those same friends later appeared as extras in Out of Focus.

Director Statement

OUT OF FOCUS was made purely out of my own interest in creating compelling and complex characters who navigate a world in which they are doomed to be seen for who they really are. Both the protagonist and antagonist of the story were inspired from my own personal experiences with the concept of morality and the idea of "being involved". when writing i was thinking about times in my life when i was presented options to act but didn't or made the wrong decision, or "stayed out of it". I started to play with the idea of how this photographer character Ben who, safely hidden behind the lens of his camera would act when faced with an external incentive to use his skillet in morally questionable areas. Vince acted as a gateway for Ben into a world he did not necessarily want to end up but none the less was destined to be a part of. The core intention of the film was to show the consequences of Ben actions and how this world demanded authenticity and honest existence. when you live behind a lens exploiting shady occurrences the end of OUT OF FOCUS is the result.
