Experiencing Interruptions?

Everything you say about me - OTI VAKERESA MANGE (Romani)

A wooden chest opens, revealing well-hidden secrets.
A profound love story, a crime for a woman's honor, and the wandering of a great family through space and time in search of a new homeland.
A long-term observation spanning four generations unfolds the stunning tale of the patriarch of this family, Paraskevas, who at a very young age managed to break free from the "walls" of Gypsy nomadic life, educate himself, and integrate into urban society and its lifestyle. However, his world crumbled in an instant when fate armed itself against him.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

The Gypsies have always been a different part of the society however, although they used to wander and live "in the outskirts" of society, we could say that they were integrated and useful, as they could earn their living by doing agricultural tasks, they'd sell a wide range of products in fairs, they'd entertain people with their music etc. Since 1980 and onwards, the marginalized communities did not follow the industrial revolution, they settled themselves in camps. As a result, the "ghettoization" of these people increased. In many cases, the lack of care on behalf of the government and the use of the general term "Roma" for all the groups from different parts of Greece resulted in the loss of the common traits of the Roma among the rest of the Greek society and the image of the Gypsy identity to be distorted. The majority of people are currently under a “dirty”, false and full of stereotypes impression about the Roma community.
With the movie, Everything you say about me, I aim to highlight the unknown side of these people, bringing to the foreground their personal identity in contrast to their ethnic one. This movie attempts to boldy re-examine cultural issues of their everyday lives, through a subjective artistic point of view, bringing to the fore a powerful and human story, this time focusing on the characters of a family, stripping them from any ethnic or stereotype identity.
