Director Statement

Our generation just can’t let things go. Naturally this is true for all generations, but I never seen it as dominant in others as it is in ours. I was born in the 80s, grew up in the 90s and long for those days again. I long for a Saturday night watching 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' on SNICK. I know I’m not alone. The concept of OSTSG speaks loud and clear to me. Take something already great, something you know, something you reminisce about and something you’ve always loved, and re-image it. Tell it the way you want to tell it. Tell the untold story of “what could have been” or “what can be”.

I’ve always dissected films, television shows and books that I love. I struggle with the devastation of finishing an amazing book or hearing my favorite show hasn’t been renewed for another season. I write stories and daydream about the characters I loved so much in different situations to keep them alive. OSTSG gives me the ability to take those characters and stories and put them in a new world—my world. And being the horror freak I am, the big picture comes together quite easily.

In the teen filmmaking program our production company worked on, the students always wanted to film something in the horror genre. Always! It was then we realized there just wasn’t enough content out there for the tweens interested in the horror genre but not quite ready for the R rating. Nearly everything released as a horror movie these days are filled with nudity and extreme gore. OSTSG is our attempt to find a solution to that.

Horror is simple. Horror needs to grab a hold of you, it needs to make you think twice about turning off the light before bed ... and it always needs to be one step ahead of you. -Theresa Labreglio
