ONE CHANCE (The Movie)
Bird, a renowned spoken word poet, is tragically found dead on a deserted highway. The film rewinds, revealing her last day as she prepares a poem for a festival, her backdrop a bustling city soundscape. Due to unavailable ride services, she reluctantly takes public transport, only to find herself in a harrowing situation. The passengers, including one woman, reveal themselves as armed robbers. In this disturbing turn of events, she’s forced to surrender her belongings, and the narrative then loops back to the opening scene, prompting the audience to contemplate her fate.

As a filmmaker and storyteller, my work seeks to illuminate the often-overlooked realities of contemporary life. With One Chance, I am compelled to bring to the forefront a harrowing yet deeply human narrative that reflects the lived experiences of countless urban dwellers in Nigeria.
This film is more than a story of tragedy—it is a mirror held up to society, reflecting the fragile line between ambition and adversity, hope and despair. Bird, our protagonist, represents a generation of dreamers navigating a landscape fraught with challenges, where resilience is not just a virtue but a means of survival.
In crafting One Chance, I have drawn inspiration from personal encounters, shared stories, and the unspoken fears of young people striving to make something of themselves in an unforgiving world. By merging spoken word poetry with a gritty visual aesthetic, my aim is to immerse the audience in Bird’s journey—her aspirations, vulnerabilities, and the stark reality of her fate.
This project is my call to action, a plea for empathy, and a conversation starter about the systemic issues that perpetuate insecurity and economic disparity. Through this film, I hope to provoke thought, stir emotions, and inspire collective reflection on the urgent need for change in our society.
Filmmaking, for me, is not just about creating art but about wielding it as a tool for advocacy and connection. I am honored to share Bird’s story with the world, and I hope One Chance resonates with audiences, sparking the dialogue and empathy needed to build a safer and more equitable society.
