ONDOILO

These are difficult times for the Maasai of Esilalei Ward. Grazing areas for cattle are rapidly decreasing due to increased urbanization and drought.

Reducing the number of children might be the only way for the Maasai of Esilalei Ward to survive because they can’t feed their children anymore.

Marion Sumari and her team of the Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute (KCRI) believe that family planning methods may assist Maasai in birth control. Several Maasai elders agree.

As the number of mobile phone users among Maasai in Esilalei is extremely high, mobile communication is a promising way to increase access and knowledge.
