This film ONAIWU will always be special to me because it’s my first feature film as a film student who is just graduating. We had some difficulty creating this film, right from the screenplay, we did three drafts of the screenplay, only to get to set and still could not achieve the entire scenes because of some financial and technical issues. The film turned out to be a little different from the script.
The film is an Edo State and UKaid grant sponsored film, with a matching grant from us. Working with the cast and crew was fun, and hectic at the same time, but the experience will help me with future projects.
The film is about a young girl that must marry an old against her wish, her marriage to the old is the payment for the debt her parents incurred.
I was inspired by the stories of how in those days a child can be married off to some one he/she does not even know nor seen before, majority of our grandparents are victims of such. And it has led to a lot of drama and heartbreaks. So i put this together using debt as a the main cause for betrothal.
