ODORI DI BOSCO [After Walt Whitman]
ODORI DI BOSCO [After Walt Whitman] is an experimental art video filmed by visual artist Laura Pitingaro at the botanical Gardens in Palermo, which mixes sound recordings of natural settings with a cappella and live voiceover of soprano Giulia Alberti. The short videoart piece is the byproduct in 2024 of a comprehensive solo show of the artist at the botanical Gardens in 2024 regarding the human-nature relationship. Conceived for the audience to listen to natural noises, it stars Manfredi Jannelli in the part of Young Walt exploring the Botanical Gardens and wondering about the environment. The short film is inspired by a short poem of Walt Whitman found at a flee market and translated into Italian ODORI DI BOSCO (smell of wood). The verses are sung a cappella by the soprano, who interacts live with the video piece performing among the audience also the aria "Sing on there, from the swamp" of Paul Hindemith on verses by Walt Whitman. The piece should preferably be shown with a dolby surround sound installation and the live performance of the soprano.

LAURA PITINGARO is an independent artist who started her practice after studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Verona. He then trained with great protagonists of the international scene such as Karel Appel (Cobra group), Anish Kapoor and Gary Breckett (Living Theatre). Ranging from new media to performance, from painting to print, his works investigate the relationship between humanity and nature by creating luminous environments, videos and sound installations recently exhibited in Palermo, Barcelona and Madrid.
"It's astounding to find oneself immersed in natural sound and suddenly hear the call of nature in the voice of a soprano that walks among the audience... this kind of marvel is needed to get back in touch with nature!"
