Nymphaea Aeternum
Nymphaea Aeternum is a 100 minute looped animation that employs a variety of methods across painting and digital animation. The work continues a line of the artist’s practice exploring equivalents between painting and moving image.
Conceived as a single screen installation, the work appears like an animated shifting painting of water lilies. Viewers have the flexibility to engage at their own pace and spend as much or as little time with the work. While containing looped rhythms and a continuous motif, the image is constantly moving - each of the 72000 frames unique.
Echoing different encounters that might be had with a single physical space and its change through environmental conditions and the internal state of the viewer - one encounter to the next (whether through return viewings or different viewers) offers experiences that are familiar yet distinct and continually revealing.
Technical details:
The dimensions of the work are variable, and as such can be adjusted to a variety of spaces. Given the nature of the work it is best suited to being projected on a large scale (to become the space rather than an object viewed within a space). The basic technical requirements would include a media player, projector and speaker setup capable of playing 1080p video and dual channel audio.
An adapted version of Nymphaea Aeternum has also been conceived / is available for live performance. This consists of a shorter single duration version of the animation accompanied by a live version of the score performed by the artist. Technical requirements for this are reasonably basic and can be adapted/discussed with venues at request.
