Nxdia - What's It Like?
A music video for singer-songwriter Nxdia's latest single "What's It Like". The video mixes story/abstract elements that evoke the meaning and feelings expressed in the song. The story follows a young woman as she slowly descends into a well of obsession over a stranger that she feels is better than her in all the ways she feels insecure about.
She's neither in love with her nor envious of her. She's simply wondering what it's like to not be herself.

When this landed on my lap from Nadia, I didn't think I'd be able to pull off something I'd feel proud of due to the time constraints that came with this project.
And yet, 2 weeks later, from idea conception to release we have ourselves something I'm extremely, unbelievably proud of. We did what should have taken a month (or two) in a week. You see, we don't treat these things like it's just a job. We get in there, we live with this stuff and it lives within us. We don't just turn up, do the thing, leave, edit, send and that's it. That's not why I signed up for this life of constant uncertainty.
So I'm beyond proud and grateful that we managed to, once again, push the boundaries of not only what we do but what any or all our peers do and tell a story that's unique, clear and more than a little real.
You see, it all clicked once I figured out that while the song itself is upbeat and Nadia's charm is ever present, that it's a deeply sad and deeply personal tale of not being either jealous of someone or dismissive, it's just about wondering what it's like to be ANYONE but yourself. When you feel like any other life, any at all would be a better one than yours and just wondering what that must be like. That's what unlocked all the images you see above.
I'm once again very proud we pulled this off, to this standard, during a crazy week, asking all my collaborators to just trust me with my weird ideas, which they did and I cannot thank you all enough for that.
