Not your fault

From year 1967 to 1977, China underwent a catastrophe of civilization, known as the Cultural Revolution. Through out the entire country, schools were suspended, intellects persecuted and students forced to quit educations. Thousands of homes were ripped, innocent citizens were publicly tortured and scholars were punished to conduct heavy labor in rural areas.
1981, Hebei.
Due to the demolition of constructions that were in violation of regulations, Lao Zhang reencountered his son after twenty years.

Director Biography - Wang Qingxin

Director Wang Qingxin, from China, is a sophomore from Communication University of China. He liked photography when he was in high school. Then entering into university, he embarked on making short films. In his first year, he made a dormitory scene short film Coins, which convinced him that he loved film creation and chose it as his career. In the first semester of his sophomore year, he made a short science fiction film The Note, telling a Utopian future story. Because of this short film, he got the opportunity to attend the Bootcamp Unit of Tampere International Film Festival and the Short Film Corner of Cannes International Film Festival. He continued to make a new short film Not Your Fault about political reflection when he came back, and it put the pain of the times in front of us again to give a profound reflection. He enjoys the purity of the creating process, seriously absorbs and digests classic films in the film history, and is working hard to prepare his next works.

Director Statement

Shooting this short film is based on the real people and events around me. For that past era, everyone left a mark on it. Through this adaptation, I want to reflect on that era and appeal for caring for those people who continue to live with pain.
