Director Statement

The reason I made Not Fair is because I knew no one else in my country would, and I believed it was a story that needed to be told. I also knew it would be well-received and spark important conversations. Growing up, I was on the receiving end of bullying and, later in life, experienced discrimination due to my darker skin tone, especially in the media. These personal experiences motivated me to take action. I realized that if no one else was going to speak up, then I had to be the one to do it—not just for myself, but for the betterment of society as a whole.

Not Fair is incredibly important because it’s not only a film that addresses a crucial issue, but it also does so in a trendy, relatable, and accessible way that everyone—no matter their skin tone—can connect with. The film is precise and unapologetic, and its message is clear: beauty exists in all skin tones, and we must embrace that truth every day, in every way. It’s a conversation we need to continue, and I hope this film helps to push that dialogue forward.
