Ellie Burns is an aspiring filmmaker and actress who wishes to inspire others and share her vision of the world. She is from Louisville, Kentucky and goes to school near Cleveland, Ohio. She is twenty years old.
OUTCOME STATEMENT
“Not Everything Rhymes” is a short narrative film/video poem to be shown in CAS-172 Foundations of Media Production and is to be finished by May 2nd, 2023. The intended audience for this is anyone who is in this course, as well as anyone who is open to the experience and could view the film where it will be distributed. The main purpose of this short film is to inform the audience of the troubles and obstacles someone might be going through, as well as the fantastic spontaneity of the world we live in, that is chaotic, scary, and beautiful all at once.
VISION STATEMENT
There will be a psychological thriller tone and a dark, unsettling mood to the film that will aim to encourage the audience to think and reflect on the content shown. Budget is limited, however there will be special effects scattered throughout that are both auditory and visual. Due to the sensitive material in the film, a viewer’s discretion will be added. There may also be mild fake blood involved, which will also be included in the viewer’s discretion. The main locations for this film will be an interview room, an echoey hallway, a forested area, and a mock medical space; the OCD segment will be film in various locations that fit scripted scenarios. Costumes and props will fit in with appropriate chapter setting and situation.
EDITORIAL STATEMENT
This project will aim to connect with the viewer on a personal level, making them contemplate their relationship with the world and those around them; the viewers will be encouraged to not push their emotions down while viewing, and to welcome the experience before them. This experience will be abstract and experimental, which will allow the audience more creative freedom. The end goal is for the audience to walk away with a realization of their individual life experiences, contemplating their morals, confronting hypocrisy, mental health awareness, and a better understanding for the uniqueness of each individual they share the world with. This project came into fruition with a hope that many will open their eyes to the many experiences that they themselves do not experience and help with their perspective on topics and situations they find unfamiliar.
This is my first film, and it reflects many hardships I've gone through in my life thus far. I made it as a final project for a class I took in spring of 2023, and my professors encouraged me to submit it to a festival. I'm extremely grateful for the feedback I've received and am hopeful for the future of my film career.
