The Northeast Filmmakers Lab 5th edition is designed by and for filmmakers. Modeled after Rotterdam, the intimate setting is supportive, friendly and offers direct one-on-one access to veteran filmmakers, producers, entertainment attorneys, noted actors, casting directors and budgeting experts. Meaningful industry panel discussions encourage audience participation in open dialogue about the creative and business aspects of filmmaking. Two main goals: (1) help filmmakers complete their works-in-progress and (2) reach as wide an audience as possible.
Capital Cinema Cultural Exchange, Inc (CCCE), a not-for-profit hosts the Northeast Filmmakers Lab 5th edition October 25-26, 2018. Day One: lab participants will first meet industry mentors. As a small group, meet in private setting with a veteran Hollywood actor, Stephen Lang, attend a gala reception, network with industry filmmakers. Day Two: lab participants will meet one-on-one with industry mentors, attend a regional film festival, Film Talks, mixers, screenings and network in the Filmmakers Lounge.
Past discussions include practical topics by Passion River film distributors on Social media; Seed n Spark: “Crowd Funding: Alternate Strategies to Crowd Building & Marketing”; “Casting to Make Your Movie Travel,” and “Film Financing & Distribution,” plus many other need-to-know topics in today's rapidly changing media landscape.
If accepted, lab participants will be housed by host families. U.S. and international lab participants traveling from afar will receive a travel stipend (tbd). Some meals are provided. You won't find a less expensive, smart or friendlier setting. Even if your project is not selected for the lab, just for applying, you will receive a "Smart Pass" which provides you access to Film Talks, screenings and the industry lounge.
Our aim is to help filmmakers of all ages advance your next project toward completion. In our first four years, lab participants went on to complete their projects, screen in dozens of film festivals, air on television, receive offers to be optioned, or enter production. We're serious about helping you understand the creative business of filmmaking such that you might complete your next project.
Given the challenges that face most filmmakers, the unique connections and long-term relationships you develop here make the value of the professional lab well over $1,000. We don't give away prize money, yet you gain "access" and leave with relationships you'll want to keep. Many of our filmmakers return to develop their next project and help other filmmakers.
The Northeast Filmmakers Lab prides itself on inclusion. We don't host parties you cannot attend. First, you must complete the on-line application. Up to six (6) new projects will join past lab participants. Lab fellows must attend all industry scheduled activities. Up to two participants per project may attend on behalf of the project.
Projects further in development may be the focus of the lab, however, projects in all stages of development are considered. Our basic requirement: upon completion of your project, filmmakers must recognize CCCE in your project's closing credits, "This project supported in part by (insert CCCE Logo)."
