After 3 years in performing arts, concluded in 2013 with an internship in production at Teatro Cinema A Barraca - a Portuguese theater company based in Lisbon -, Anna Escobar entered the artistic medium, turning to the audiovisual universe.
A photographer by training and with experience in the image industry, in 2020 she published her first book - I've Been Traveling, which portrays her connection with the feeling of being an immigrant and traveling the world looking for a home.
During the same period that she was working for Vogue Portugal and other digital magazines, she followed along her path capturing moments at various events, such as Lisbon Fashion Week.
In her parallel performance in the fashion world, Anna was nominated for best direction at the Porto Fashion Film Festival, for the film Today I Feel. Throughout this process, an interest in the world of cinema was awakened, and so she moved to Valencia, Spain, where she became a Master's student in Directing and Cinematography.
One of her first directions was demonstrated in 2021 at the YELMO cinema in Spain with the short film "Nochebuena".
In the same year, she had experiences as a Gaffer and camera operator in several Spanish video-clips, as well as in youth film production. Currently, she dedicates her time to directing, producing, photography, and, more recently, to the "Colmeia na Gringa" Audiovisual Collective as founder and collaborator.
In her master of Directing Actors and Cinema Anna was the only woman in her class during the process, now she wants to bring more women into the audiovisual world and demonstrate that every woman already has a voice; the world just needs to hear them. With this film she wants to emphasize the natural woman in the audiovisual world, to make the "objectification of the feminine" disappear. Nochebuena is also an open conversation in a funny way, where the director questions the comparisons that society can make, and because it is somewhat surreal that a woman can speak openly about issues that involve female gentalities, without being a seven-headed monster.
