Director Biography - Matthew C. Vella

Matthew C. Vella is an international award-winning filmmaker & entertainer from Blacktown, Western Sydney. Born of Maltese immigrant parents, Matt is a proud pop culture nerd who has dedicated his life to entertaining others.

Matt’s debut film Bleeding Backs (2016) won awards both internationally and at home, with 5 wins & 15+ official selections, screening in the US, Canada, U.K, New Zealand and all over Australia. His follow up saw him switching genres to comedy with She's Not Your Type (2018). It’s premiere at Made in the West Film Festival 2018 saw it taking home the Audience Choice Award, and shortly after won awards for directing at both Austin Comedy Short Film Festival & Women's Comedy Film Festival in Atlanta, as well as Best Editor at Sydney Indie Film Festival.

When he's not writing & directing films, Matt is generally talking about them on the Midnight Double Feature podcast and hosting Western Sydney Filmmakers Hangout - a popular networking group with over one thousand members he co-founded, with live events held quarterly.

Matt loves to tell trendy, entertaining, fun genre stories in action, comedy & horror.
