Rajiv Mallick comes to the world of film making from a long and distinguished career in health care research. His career and life experiences have intersected in a desire to be creative in a literary form. As a career professional, Rajiv brings to the world of film his immense health outcomes research learnings on mental health disorders, and as a middle-aged adult, his various life experiences as a husband and father. His film company, Innocent Entertainment - Mallick Films LLC, is devoted to a mission of developing content that focuses on and celebrates innocence, in all its various forms - innocence of feelings, innocence of actions, and innocence from alleged wrongdoing. His first film, Innocent Chat, was about how character and behavioral flaws, when unaddressed, can lead to hugely missed life opportunities. Innocent Chat touched on infidelity, depression, low self-esteem, and anger management, yet offered hope and redemption out of the realization of innocent decisions gone wrong. The film was officially selected at 32 film festivals globally and won about a dozen awards in different categories.
Rajiv's current film, No Laughing Matter, building loosely on real life events, is a comedy intended to focus attention on the prejudices and bigotry that are sometimes part of our culture and how they may be overcome at the level of the human heart by simple acts of love and empathy. In about four months since its completion and festival submissions, it has already been officially selected and/or screened at more than a dozen film festivals.
In these turbulent times, comes a film that seeks to inject humor and poignance into the difficult issues of racial and ethnic prejudice and ignorance. Ultimately, it is not by grandiose political means but by simple acts of love and acceptance that impact our dearest ones at a personal level that emerges hope for overcoming such bigotry. I was inspired in making this film by real events in my life as a father who learnt at the 11th hour about my own daughter’s wedding plans to a Turkish man. The prejudice is of course completely fictional yet it’s true that my real life son in law grew on me over time with his warmth and love for my daughter (his wife) and his ability to articulate his feelings despite the language barriers.
