No/Gloss Film Festival is the independent film festival for Leeds, UK. The most anticipated film event of the year, No/Gloss features over 2 days of the best independent and underground films from talent the world over.
Celebrating unconventional cinema in unique spaces, the festival has been held in unusual venues around Leeds. No Gloss Film Festival is all about the full festival experience - offering live art, music, outdoor food tents and an afterparty and networking session. Previous editions were held in a Victorian pie factory, a 18th century former textile mill in Leeds , and in a Grade 1 Listed Egyptian flax mill to name a few.

No/Gloss aims to evolve into a platform to make independent, rarely-screened, self-made films accessible to those who love, support and appreciate them. We want skill-sharing to be inclusive to those who want to learn, foster a supportive community of individuals with a can-do DIY attitude, who are able to share ideas or discuss overcoming real challenges faced behind the camera. No/Gloss exists to help motivate anyone who wants to be involved in film to pursue this desire and that they needn’t be discouraged because of the lack of access to equipment, or funds, or an audience. We want to challenge the standards that define “good film-making“, showcase that the film-making process does not have to be confined to a particular school of thought or a textbook technique: it can be spontaneous, it can be awesome, that it is possible.

“I love the exposure you gave Line of Sight last year” – Lucas Brunelle, Line of Sight (USA)

“IndieFlix is excited to partner with the No/Gloss Film Festival given our shared dedication to supporting talented filmmakers from all walks of life. We’re proud to support a festival that is taking a stripped down, authentic approach to showcasing the best and truest independent films from around the world.” – IndieFlix

“No/Gloss is a community that invites film makers to share their work and experiences, does not judge film makers on what school they went to or what camera they filmed on its a home for creative stories – a warm and welcoming festival where you can have a beer and talk to people about films. “- Jim Martin, Eleanor (UK)

“Increasingly it feels that film festivals place the emphasis on existing relationships and star power over the content of film and as such audiences are deprived of the opportunity to discover new films from undiscovered talent. The No/Gloss festival is about giving power back to the audience and giving new filmmakers the opportunity to connect with film fans. As such we’re absolutely thrilled that we have been selected and can’t wait to introduce Lad to a Leeds audience, especially as our film has had such a huge amount of support from the community.” – Dan Hartley, Lad (UK)

Seriously awesome and cool festival!! Met some amazing film makers and such a creative, friendly, chilled and fun atmosphere and a great platform to showcase work! It's really important to have festivals like this that support a range of films including lower budget and Guerrilla filmmaking, giving a wider range of films and filmmakers, which really shows the creative craft of filmmaking... Thanks so much No Gloss!!

My short film GENE premiered at No Gloss 2016 and I'm hugely proud to have been a part of the festival. A cracking selection of films, welcoming atmosphere in an amazing venue with some truly excellent food. The organisers were lovely, very responsive and everybody screening was offered the opportunity for a q&a session. There were a number of critics/ bloggers in attendance who have since written about my film and I met some other filmmakers who I've already found new contacts from. Will submit next year and even if I'm not selected I'll still attend!
