No Coffee No Cigarettes
The film is a humorous nod to the art of filmmaking itself. Two characters engage in an existential exchange on what it means to be fictional characters in an AI-generated world. This brings humour, depth, and a self-reflective perspective on art, human existence and cinema to the piece.

Director's Statement
The experimental nature and budget constraints of this project lend themselves to a short format, with a target length of 3-5 minutes. I am aware of the current limitations of AI in generating realistic body movements, so I plan to focus on a more static setup that emphasizes human expression and acting.
The title, No Coffee, No Cigarettes, is a humorous nod to Jim Jarmusch’s classic film Coffee and Cigarettes, in which artists meet in a diner for mundane yet philosophically conversations. In my film, two fictional characters will engage in an existential exchange on what it means to be fictional characters in an AI-generated world. This shall bring humour, depth, and a self-reflective perspective to the piece.
My core artistic inquiry is whether AI can create emotionally resonant content. I am curious about the potential for AI-generated art to genuinely move audiences and meet human needs for connection and intellectual engagement. Fundamentally, I question whether AI art can forge a meaningful bond between the art and the individual, or if that is even the right question to ask of AI filmmaking.
Through my research, I’ve learned that the creative impulse behind AI-generated work remains human-driven. AI is better understood as a tool rather than a replacement, providing a new way to approach visual storytelling.
AI filmmaking may not replace traditional film production, with its cameras, lights, crew, and talent. Instead, it opens new forms and possibilities for storytelling.
Exciting times lie ahead. Let’s create!
