Paulo Duarte Guimarães was born in Leblon, one block from the sea. His father, Daltely Guimarães, a great swimmer for Internacional de Regatas and Fluminense, and coach of C.R Flamengo and the Brazilian swimming team for over 20 years, going to 3 Olympics and some world championships. His mother, Eliane Duarte, an exceptional plastic artist, having won the highest Brazilian award in her segment, 14 visual arts salon, in 1994, present in the main collections of Latin America, having her work shown in several museums such as MAM-Rio, Fundação Cartier, Museum of Contemporary Art of Niterói, among others.
Professional swimmer until the age of 17 for C.R. Flamengo, he was Brazilian champion and swimming record holder and Water Polo from Rio de Janeiro, he began his journey in the arts at the age of 7, accompanying his mother to exhibitions, at EAV-Parque Lage and in his creation atelier . He started writing poems at the age of 14 and at CEP 20,000, in 1990, at the age of 15, he began to recite them, forming a set of poetry set to music called Boa Noite Cinderela.
In 1993, he idealized Cambralha, an update of Tropicália by Hélio Oiticica, and together with Ericson Pires, Adriana Schineider, Gabriela Gusmão, Cristiana Cotrim, Ralph Pires, Edmundo, the theater group Ágora Agora and dozens of culture makers from the city of Rio de January, held the first edition of the most expressive multicultural event of the 90s, which still takes place today. Dozens of artists participated in the 5 editions, such as Chacal, his mother's brother, Cabelo, Guilherme Zarvos, Elisa Lucinda, Michel Melamed, Boato, Los Hermanos, Carlos Vergara, the father of his 2 cousins, Aletéia Dani Luz, Ava Rocha, André Dahmer among hundreds of artists.
Between 1994 and 1999 Paulo carried out a series of interventions in the field of art-politics, such as CUCA – Circuito Universitário Carioca de Artes, held at PUC-Rio; UFRJ-Praia Vermelha; UERJ and UNIRIO, later copied by UNE. Participates in the Hunger movement for Education and Direct Democracy, claiming the democratization of public spaces for the transmission of all artistic segments. In 1998, he stopped in the city of Rio de Janeiro and was arrested by the city's military police, initiating a series of political interventions. They definitively found a new conception of artistic realization based on the democratic diversity of thinking and making art.
In 2003 Paulo launches two books of marginal poetry: O Galinete and Marte 13, CEP 20.000 publishes the 17th edition of its series of poets, with Paulo. In 2006, he produced his first work in the audiovisual field, Ó Cajueiro`, which was shown at the MFL 2007. In 2007, he accompanied the filming of ´O Diário de Sintra`, in Portugal, with Paula Gaitán in the direction and Nilson Primitivo in the audio capture . In his spare time, he films his second film with Nilson through the streets of Sintra and begins a partnership that would last until 2019.
On June 6, 2007, Paulo spent 3 months camped at the Peace Camp, along with Brian Haw and dozens of activists, in Parliament Square, London. Brian is undoubtedly the greatest pacifist in England, staying 10 years in the same place until the war ended. They militate together against the war in Iraq, for peace, and Paulo contributes by swimming for peace in the Thamse River against the war in Iraq and against the cruel murder of Jean Charles de Menezes, which took place in 2005. Paulo occupies the English Parliament , one of the safest buildings in the world, where he is detained under SOCOPA 126, the anti-terror law, sleeping overnight at the Metropolitan Police station. This performance was filmed and became one of the 13 video clips directed by Nilson Primitivo later.
In 2008 Paulo and Nilson made ´Constantinople`, a short film in 16mm, with expired negative, revealed by the two of them, at their home in Jardim Botânico, where he lived with his mother, who had her atelier there for 10 years. This work reaches national and international festivals and art galleries: Galeria Polinésia - SP - 2008 ; Collective Gallery –SP - 2008; Parallel Festival Oberhausen - 2008; Curta Cinema - 2008; IV Deconstrução Independent Production Exhibition - ES -2008; Like Petrobras at Six 2008; Trash – 4th Goiás Independent Film Festival, 2008; MFL - Free Film Festival – 2008; MIOLO - XIII international film and video environment festival, Serra da Estrela, Portugal, 2008, definitively starting its path in the audiovisual field.
In 2010, Paulo and dozens of artists held the fifth edition of Cambralha, at Praça Otto Lara Resende, next to the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro, the scene of his childhood and adolescence. In 2012, with Nilson Primitivo, he made his first feature film, also Nilson's first, rhizomatically synthesizing part of his journey in the arts. Between 2016 and 2018 Paulo recorded 60 songs with Bruno Pederneiras and formed the Ayahuascapunk band, a punk subgenre, Power Plants.
In 2019 Paulo produced and Nilson directed 13 video clips of part of this material recorded at the Grávea studio, in Baixo Gávea. In 2023 Paulo releases a new version of Nitrato de Prata at the same time that he finishes his second feature film, still untitled, submitting the 13 video clips and the new version of Nitrato de Prata both at MFL 2023, the non-language film festival conventional that exhibited it the most, as well as in more than 120 national and international festivals.

Paulo Duarte Guimarães nasceu no Leblon a uma quadra do mar. Seu pai, Daltely Guimarães, grande nadador pelo Internacional de Regatas e Fluminense, e técnico do C. R Flamengo e seleção brasileira de natação por mais de 20 anos, indo a 3 olimpíadas e alguns campeonatos mundiais. Sua mãe, Eliane Duarte, excepcional artista plástica, tendo ganho o maior prêmio Brasileiro de seu segmento, 14 salão de artes plásticas, em 1994, presente nas principais coleções da America latina, tendo seu trabalho veiculado em diversos museus como MAM-Rio, Fundação Cartier, Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói entre outros.
Nadador profissional até os 17 anos pelo C. R. Flamengo, fora campeão brasileiro e recordista de natação e carioca de Water Polo, iniciou sua caminhada nas artes com 7 anos, ao acompanhar sua mãe nas exposições, na EAV-Parque Lage e em seu atelier de criação. Começou a escrever poemas aos 14 anos e no CEP 20.000, em 1990, com 15 anos, começou a recitá-los, formando um conjunto de poesia musicada chamado Boa Noite Cinderela.
Em 1993 idealiza o Cambralha, uma atualização da Tropicália de Hélio Oiticica, e junto com Ericson Pires, Adriana Schineider, Gabriela Gusmão, Cristiana Cotrim, Ralph Pires, Edmundo, o grupo teatral Ágora agora e dezenas de fazedores de cultura da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, realizam a primeira edição do evento multicultural mais expressivo dos anos 90, que acontece até os dias atuais. Dezenas de artistas participaram das 5 edições, como Chacal, irmão de sua mãe, Cabelo, Guilherme Zarvos, Elisa Lucinda, Michel Melamed, Boato, Los Hermanos, Carlos Vergara, pai de seus 2 primos, Aletéia Dani Luz, Ava Rocha, André Dahmer entre centenas de artistas.
Entre 1994 e 1999 Paulo realiza uma série de intervenções no âmbito da arte-política, como o CUCA – Circuito Universitário Carioca de Artes, realizado na PUC-Rio; UFRJ-Praia Vermelha; UERJ e UNIRIO, copiado pela UNE posteriormente. Participa do movimento Fome de Educação e Democracia Direta, reivindicando a democratização dos espaços públicos para a veiculação de todos os segmentos artísticos. Em 1998 param a cidade do Rio de Janeiro e é detido pela polícia militar da cidade, iniciando uma série de intervenções-políticas. Fundam definitivamente uma nova concepção de realização artística fundada na diversidade democrática do pensar-fazer arte.
Em 2003 Paulo lança dois livros de poesia marginal: O Galinete e Marte 13, o CEP 20.000 faz a edição número 17, de sua série de poetas, com Paulo.
Em 2006 realiza seu primeiro trabalho na área do audiovisual, Ó Cajueiro`, que é exibido na MFL 2007. Em 2007 acompanha as filmagens de ´O diário de Sintra`, em Portugal, com Paula Gaitán na direção e Nilson Primitivo na captação do áudio. Nas horas vagas filma com Nilson pelas ruas de Sintra seu segundo filme e inicia uma parceria que duraria até 2019.
Em 6 de Junho de 2007 Paulo fica 3 mêses acampado no acampamento da paz, juntamente com Brian Haw e dezenas de ativistas, no Parliament Square, em Londres. Brian é sem dúvidas o maior pacifista da Inglaterra, ficando 10 anos no mesmo lugar até a guerra acabar. Militam juntos contra a guerra do Iraque, pela paz, e Paulo contribui com a natação pela paz, no Rio Thamse contra a guerra do Iraque e contra o cruel assassinato de Jean Charles de Menezes, ocorrido no ano de 2005. Paulo ocupa o Parlamento Inglês, um dos prédios mais seguros do mundo, onde é detido sob acusação da SOCOPA 126, lei anti-terror, dormindo por uma noite na delegacia da polícia metropolitana. Essa performance foi filmada e se transformou em um dos 13 vídeoclips dirigido por Nilson Primitivo posteriormente.
Em 2008 Paulo e Nilson realizam ´Constantinopla`, curta metragem em 16mm, com negativo vencido, revelado pelos os dois, em sua casa no Jardim Botânico, onde morou com sua mãe, que teve ali seu atelier por 10 anos. Esse trabalho alcança festivais nacionais, internacionais e galerias de artes: Galeria Polinésia - SP - 2008 ; Galeria Coletivo –SP - 2008; Paralela do Festival Oberhausen - 2008; Curta Cinema - 2008; IV Mostra Produção Independente Desconstrução - ES -2008; Curta Petrobras às Seis 2008; Trash – 4ª Mostra Goiana de Filmes Independentes, 2008; MFL - Mostra do Filme Livre – 2008; MIOLO - XIII festival internacional de cinema e vídeo de ambiente, serra da estrela, Portugal, 2008, iniciando definitivamente sua caminhada no percurso do audiovisual.
Em 2010 Paulo e dezenas de artistas realizam a quinta edição do Cambralha, na Praça Otto Lara Resende, ao lado do Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro, cenário de sua infância e adolescência. Em 2012 realiza com Nilson Primitivo o seu primeiro longa metragem, também o primeiro de Nilson, sintetizando de forma rizomática parte de sua jornada nas artes. Entre 2016 e 2018 Paulo grava com Bruno Pederneiras 60 músicas e formam a banda de Ayahuascapunk, subgênero do punk, Power Plants.
Em 2019 Paulo produz e Nilson dirige 13 vídeoclips de parte desse material gravado no estúdio Grávea, no baixo Gávea. Em 2023 Paulo lança uma nova versão de Nitrato de Prata ao mesmo tempo em que finaliza seu segundo longa metragem, ainda sem título, inscrevendo os 13 vídeoclips e a nova versão de Nitrato de Prata tanto na MFL 2023, o festival de cinema de linguagem não convencional que mais o exibiu, quanto em mais de 120 festivais nacionais e internacionais.
